BREGENZ

BREGENZ - LAKE CONSTANCE'S INTRIGUING CITY

Situated in a beautiful sheltered bay at the eastern end of Lake Constance, Bregenz is best known for its stunning open-air floating theatre: the"Festspiel und Kongresshaus"; where, every summer, some of the most sensational and unique opera festivals in the world, take place.

Bregenz is partly clinging to the slopes of the Pfänder mountain, dividing it into an upper and lower part.

In the upper town you can admire the majestic "Martinsturm" built in 1602 with the characteristic bulb dome and excellent viewpoint over the city.

"Bregenz the city with a perfect balance between nature, tradition, modernity and art."

In the lower town, everything revolves around the two main streets: Kornmarkstrasse and Rathausstrasse. Kormarktstrasse has the characteristic Theatre am Kornmarkt , originally an old barn, then the Vorarlberger Landes museum(Vorarlberg Museum), which exhibits items of historical interest from different eras : musical instruments, furniture, clocks, costumes and typical handicrafts in general.

As its name suggests, the Rathausstrasse is overlooked by the Town Hall and the Seekapelle St. Georg, built in 1445 and remodelled in Baroque style, in 1698.

Bregenz is also a cutting-edge city, with many modern and futuristic architectural buildings, including the Kunsthaus, which hosts exhibitions of contemporary art.

For those who want to relax by the lake, there is nothing more recommended than the See promenade, at the end of which you will find the fabulous theatre "Festspiel und Kongresshaus".

Not to be missed is the panoramic Pfänder cable, an excellent starting point for walking or mountain biking or simply just to take an unforgettable picture at sunset.
