FUSSEN

FUSSEN ROMANTIC TOWN IN ALLGAU

The renowned tourist resort of Füssen, at the southern edge of the Romantic Route, is an ideal base for visiting the legendary Ludwig II Castles; Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau, which are only 4 kilometres away.

The old town of Füssen,in the Allgau Region, with its medieval streets, bourgeois houses, well preserved walls and numerous baroque churches, containing valuable artistic treasures is a legacy of more than seven hundred years of history. It is dominated by a rocky spur, on which the imposing Hohes Schloss Castle stands.

The baroque complex that once housed the Benedictine monastery of Sankt Mang stands on the banks of the River Lech and is now the site to the civic museum “Museum der Stadt Füssen” with its beautifully decorated baroque rooms.

"One of the most famous classic destinations in the Alps thanks to its well-maintained historic center, with pleasant places to dine or drink an aperitif. The nature is outstanding, with all its lakes and mountains, and of course the castles of Ludwig II.

I have been to Fussen several times and the whole area is worth a visit once in a lifetime, especially if you are a romantic nature lover. We stayed in Fussen and rented a bike to reach the castles and visit the area. I recommend, if you have time, to take advantage of a stay in Fussen and visit all the main places of the Allgau region and neighboring Austria.""

The museum exhibits one of Europe’s most significant collections of lute and historical violins, and flaunts the importance of Füssen as the “cradle" of European violin making which It has been since the 18th century.

The city surroundings reveal some enchanting landscapes, an ideal setting for walking and cycling amidst mountains and lakes. A paradise for water and winter sports enthusiasts.
