Driving in the Alps could be easy through fast motorways and long tunnels but small roads and high passes are the target for many bikers, motor bikers and slow driving tourists, therefore creating slight delays. Almost all of the roads are paved.

There are many farm tracks closed to traffic or accessible only through the payment of a toll.

The traffic is usually light but there may be peak periods during weekends and holiday periods in summer and winter where it becomes busier.

The winter period involves the seasonal closure of many mountain passes. Due to bad weather, or intensive snowing conditions other roads could be closed temporarily.
