SKYWAY MONTE BIANCO

SKYWAY THE PANORAMIC CABLE CAR OF MONTE BIANCO

Skyway is the futuristic panoramic cable car on the Italian side of Mont Blanc.

In 2015 the new lift replaced the historic cable car that connected Entrèves, the village of Courmayeur, to the Rifugio Torino, now reaching the new station of Punta Helbronner at 3466m.

The new concept of the Skyway cableway has revolutionized the visitor's experience, making the ascent and visit of the new exhibition spaces one of the must-see attractions of the Mont Blanc region.

Today the ascent with Skyway takes place inside large circular cabins, which rotate several times 360° during the ascent, allowing all walkers to enjoy the panorama of the peaks and ridges of Mont Blanc and the Courmayeur valley.

The offer is completed by many attractions in the two stations, built with high technological level, accurate design, and elements in steel, glass, and wood.

"Our first time at Punta Helbronner was with the old cable car, cramped in the small blue cabin, and then skiing down the beautiful Vallée Blanche, an experience documented in our ExplorAlp videos.

Our first ascent with Skyway gave us a strong emotion, both for the engineering and architectural work carried out and for the beauty of the spaces and the fittings.

We already knew the wonderful panorama, but certainly the platform The Sky is not to be missed to take breathtaking panoramic photos.

We also really appreciated the exhibition and the experimentation of the Cuvee du Guides, with the curious little ax in the dedicated wooden box."

THE PAVILLION MIDDLE STATION

From Entrèves departure station, at 1300m, the Skiway cabins reach the first station of Pavillon du Mont Fréty, at 2173m. Here it is necessary to get off, to change cabins.

We advise the less athletic to relax in the exhibition halls and refreshments of this station, or walking on the terrace and outside the cable car.

We remind you that the total height difference from Entréves to Punta Helbronner is about 2150m, with the summit altitude of 3466m. An overhang in altitude that weighs down your legs, shortens your breath and could cause other problems for the more sensitive if you travel too fast.

The Pavillon du Mont Fréty station has a large outdoor area for leisure and walks, which in summer is equipped with a lovely alpine botanical garden.

Inside there is a conference and cinema room, where videos on the history of Mont Blanc and mountaineering are shown, the Hangar 2173 museum room dedicated to the construction of the two cable cars, with an exhibition of the old cabin, some shops, a temporary exhibition of paintings and a restaurant with a panoramic terrace.

THE HIGHEST BUBBLES IN EUROPE

An area of the Pavillon du Mont Fréty station is dedicated to the exhibition of the wines of the Morgex Cave Mont Blanc winery and the maturation of its Cuvee du Guides, a classic method sparkling wine considered the highest bubbles in Europe.

THE HELBRONNER TOP STATION

The summit station reaches an altitude of 3466m and is built on the Helbronner Point, close to the Mont Blanc glacier. An external ladder leads to the circular viewing platform The Sky, which offers a 360° view of the majestic Mont Blanc, the ridges of the Auigille de Peuterey, the Géant glacier, the Auguile du Midi and the famous Tooth of the Giant.

Inside there is the Bistrot Panoramic with coffee bar service and a nice mailbox.

Don't miss the Mont Blanc room with its stained-glass window and view of the highest peak in Europe, the Sky Vertigo walk on a glass terrace suspended in the void and the Crystal Room, an exhibition dedicated to the crystals of the Mont Blanc region.

From the station of Punta Helbronner, mountaineers and ski-mountaineers can access the Géant glacier to reach the walls and peaks of the Mont Blanc group or descend on skis along the Vallée Blanche freeride route to Mer de Glace and Chamonix.
